The beginning

Nordkapp was founded in Helsinki in 2007 with a simple ambition: to work on the most interesting projects and be the best place to do it. In our first year, we helped shape a digital music experience that won a Finnish Grammy, a signal of the kind of work we wanted to do. From the start, we attracted clients who wanted design that moved markets, not just pixels.

Nordkapp was founded in Helsinki in 2007 with a simple ambition: to work on the most interesting projects and be the best place to do it. In our first year, we helped shape a digital music experience that won a Finnish Grammy, a signal of the kind of work we wanted to do. 2009–2014: Building a reputation

Design that wins

Through the early 2010s, Nordkapp became known as one of Finland's most distinctive design studios. We designed Pivo (OP's mobile wallet) into one of the most celebrated financial products in the Nordics, winning a Webby Award for interface design. We worked with Nokia as it navigated the most turbulent period in its history. We shaped financial products, consumer apps, and brand experiences for clients who needed design to carry real strategic weight.

Design that wins

Through the early 2010s, Nordkapp became known as one of Finland's most distinctive design studios. Strategy meets design

As our clients' challenges grew more complex, so did our practice. We expanded from digital product design into service design, strategic foresight, and business transformation. We led Fortum's digital transformation, embedding lean design squads into one of Europe's leading energy companies. We helped Telia navigate a multi-year transformation that touched foresight, service design, and design systems. We built Fortum SmartLiving into a heating optimisation service adopted by over 10,000 households, winning Grand One 2019. This period confirmed something important: design is most powerful when it is inseparable from strategy.

2020–2023: Ōura, Apple and a maturing practice

2020–2023: Ōura, Apple and a maturing practice

Category-defining work

Our work with Oura became one of the defining design stories of the decade. We helped shape the Oura Ring app into a global forerunner in health and wellbeing technology, driving 885% yearly growth, $20M+ in funding, and distribution across 100 countries. The work won Red Dot, Cannes Lions, Webby, and Grand One awards. Meanwhile, our earlier work with Beddit, the sleep technology startup we had helped shape, reached its logical conclusion: an acquisition by Apple.

By this point we had served over 200 clients across 1,000+ projects. Our teams had helped unlock 100M€ in client funding. We were operating in health & wellness, energy, financial services, transportation, retail, and manufacturing, always at the intersection of insight, strategy, and design.

Category-defining work

Our work with Oura became one of the defining design stories of the decade. Artificial intelligence is not a new tool we adopted. It is a shift we saw coming and prepared for deliberately. We have restructured our practice around it, building AI Innovation capability that helps clients define AI strategy, discover AI opportunities, and design and build AI-integrated products and services.

We work with a five-step process: Align AI Vision Discover Opportunities Prioritise & Assess Feasibility Design & Build Scale & Govern, delivered in partnership with Spyrosoft, one of Europe's leading AI technology firms. We have designed AI-powered factory tools that reduced quality inspection from three minutes to three seconds. We have run AI strategy workshops for energy companies, telecom operators, and financial institutions. We are now building AI-native futures for organisations across sectors.
